Derek Chisora sees clear winner in Shakur Stevenson vs Conor Benn at 147: “He gets messed up”

Following a stellar showing on Saturday night, Shakur Stevenson is now being linked to a welterweight debut on British soil against Conor Benn and Derek Chisora has had his say on how he believes that scrap would unfold.

Stevenson beat Teofimo Lopez handily to become the WBO super-lightweight world champion and begin a new reign in a fourth weight-division at just 28 years old.

However, it is expected that Stevenson’s time as super-lightweight champion will soon come to an end, having previously declared his desires to return to the lightweight scene and fight in title unifications.

Despite those prior comments, it was Benn’s name on the lips of Stevenson after his dominant display against Lopez, surprisingly calling for a clash with the Briton, who is poised to return to the welterweight division in the coming months following a four-year absence from 147lbs.

In an interview with FightHype.com, Chisora welcomed the fight but admitted that it would likely be a ‘whitewash’ victory for the American.

“It’s Shakur Stevenson. I love Conor, Conor is my brother, but it’s a whitewash. Conor has got pressure and all of this but, if your legs are not in the right space with a southpaw, you’re going to get f***ed up. You’re going to get beat.

“I would love that fight to happen, Shakur needs to come to London and fight Conor. It would be a good fight, huge.”

Benn hopes to get his hands on a welterweight world title in his next fight, but it remains to be seen whether he will opt for the victor of Mario Barrios vs. Ryan Garcia and the WBC route, or take on WBA champion Rolando Romero.
