Carl Froch says Wood vs Warrington rematch ends in another KO: “It’s a close fight”

Four-time super-middleweight world champion Carl Froch has laid out his prediction ahead of this weekend’s grudge match rematch between Leigh Wood and Josh Warrington in Nottingham.

Wood surprised British boxing when he rallied back from a loss against Jazza Dickens by defeating Can Xu and Michael Conlan to become the WBA featherweight world champion. Then, he claimed the belt for a second time when he avenged a defeat to Mexican boogeyman, Mauricio Lara.

‘The Sheriff of Nottingham’ was then tasked with Leeds’ Josh Warrington in October 2023 and found himself behind on the scorecards, but managed to produce a sensational seventh-round stoppage to retain his title.

Now, up at super-featherweight, Wood and Warrington are set to meet again, with the loser anticipated to retire from the sport, given their respective ages of 37 and 35 years old.

Speaking to The Sun Sport, Froch admitted that he is bias towards his fellow Nottingham fan-favourite, but explained why he believes ‘your money is safe’ if you are backing Wood to score another win over Warrington.

“Great fight, great rematch, I am really looking forward to it. I am always going to pick Leigh Wood, it’s going to be biased because he is my guy from Nottingham.

“But when somebody has got that power, that edge in power, I always sort of think to my self that your money is sort of safe, if you have got a puncher’s chance.

“Leigh Wood carries power for 12 rounds, it’s a close fight, a great fight, but I think that Leigh Wood by stoppage or knockout.

The fight takes place on Saturday night at Nottingham Arena, and will be available to watch live on DAZN.
