Daniel Dubois became the UK’s latest two-time heavyweight ruler when he halted Fabio Wardley back in May, and now four-time super-middleweight world champion Carl Froch has predicted how the 28-year-old would fare against a prime David Haye.
In 2024, Dubois stopped Filip Hrgovic to get his hands on the IBF Interim world title, but he was elevated to full world champion soon after and made an emphatic first defence against Anthony Joshua at Wembley Stadium.
The following year, Oleksandr Usyk reclaimed the IBF title as he knocked Dubois out for a second time, only for ‘Triple D’ to bounce back and regain the heavyweight throne by dispatching of Wardley upon his return.
Dubois is now hoping for a more significant reign as champion, which will begin with a rematch against Wardley later this year in what he hopes will be the second successful world title defence of his career.
Meanwhile, after dethroning Nikolai Valuev in 2009, Haye went on to only defend his WBA heavyweight world title on two occasions before suffering a defeat to Wladimir Klitschko, with the Brit’s best years arguably coming in his cruiserweight days.
Still, Froch told his TikTok channel that he would favour the ‘Hayemaker’ to come out on top against Dubois, despite their discrepancy in size.
“If it is prime versus prime, as long as Haye don’t walk into a shot, David Haye beats him [Dubois]. Natural skill, reflexes, speed, explosive power – David Haye, every day.”
Dubois and Wardley’s rematch is being touted for Saturday, October 17, at the Co-op Live Arena in Manchester, as Dubois seeks a statement performance that convinces fight fans that he is the man to lead this next generation of heavyweights.
