Anthony Joshua returned to winning ways with victory over Jake Paul on Friday night and four-time super-middleweight world champion Carl Froch has since offered his thoughts on the performance of the two-time heavyweight ruler.

Joshua received criticism for accepting a showdown with the YouTuber-turned-boxer when their meeting was announced last month, with fans expecting either a glorified spar or a one-round demolition job, depending on how seriously ‘AJ’ was taking the fight.

Instead, neither of those instances occurred, as Joshua needed six rounds to dispatch and break the jaw of the American, who was understandably reluctant to exchange during the early rounds.

Speaking on his YouTube channel, Froch said he was ’embarrassed’ for both men but did give some credit to Joshua ‘getting the job done’ on a what he determined to be a ‘sad day for boxing’.

“I’m embarrassed for both of them.

AJ, to be fair to him, at least he got the job done. He got Jake Paul out of there in six rounds, and he has sort of ended the clown world show, but he’ll probably take a lot of positivity from that Jake Paul, and his fans that think Jake Paul can box and call him a pro boxer.

He has gone six rounds with the ex-champ, but it wasn’t a boxing match, it was an absolute joke of a fight and, for me, it’s upsetting because that is professional boxing. There is a new audience coming in and that is what they’re watching and it’s s**t.

You can’t serve God and money at the same time, last night was all about money. The integrity of professional boxing, last night, was brought to it’s knees and it’s sad. It was a sad day for boxing.”

Joshua is anticipated to return to action in February before a potential Tyson Fury match-up before the end of 2026.
