AFTER 47 professional outings, Jaime Munguia may be about to engage in the biggest battle of his professional career. It was revealed earlier in the week that the Mexican had returned an adverse analytical sample in his initial test following a revenge win over Bruno Surace. Now Canelo Alvarez has weighed in on his stablemate’s current woes.
Speaking to the media during a “No golf, no life” media engagement, the undisputed super-middleweight champion was asked by ESPN’s Salvador ‘Chava’ Rodriguez to opine on the unfortunate incident.
Rodriguez invited Canelo to offer messages of support to Jaime and Eddy Reynoso regarding the incident. After praising Mexican cyclist Isaac del Toro for his achievements, Canelo turned attention to matters of the ring.
“Obviously as Munguia we are 100%,” he began, as translated into English by the account above.
“Only he knows what happened. At the end of the day he knows what happened. Obviously people throw shade at Eddy but Eddy does not bring him his supplementation.
“Eddy does not bring him things of what he has to eat, much less for people to understand. Eddy just trains him and that’s it. Some time ago I told Eddy, you have the day you are going to catch a fighter, what do you have to do?
“You have to feed him, supplement him and everything. What for? So that these things do not happen to you. Because have already happened and they blame everything on the Canelo team.”
Canelo concluded by firmly reiterating that Eddy is the trainer and not a supplier of any additional supplementation. This response was a clear message from the Canelo squad to any accusations circling around the boxing world
This is the fourth year the star has run the Torneo No Boxing No Life. The latest installment hosted by the huge golf fan took place at Mexico’s plush Bosque Real Country Club. Golfing leisure will be the last thing on Jaime Munguia’s mind as he starts the arduous process of complying with testing agencies and clearing his name of any wrongdoing.
