Providing their ‘warm-up’ fights prove inconsequential, Tyson Fury and Anthony Joshua will collide before the end of the year to settle their long-standing feud. Mexican superstar Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez has offered his thoughts on the blockbuster bout.
Fury and Joshua have finally agreed terms on a fight, but the event still hinges on success in interim bouts for each – something which cannot be taken for granted, as ‘AJ’ found out when he lost out to Andy Ruiz Jr in 2019, and again when a proposed clash with Deontay Wilder collapsed after the American lost to Joseph Parker.
On Saturday, July 25, Joshua will make his return against little-known Albanian Kristian Prenga, who has won by knockout in all 20 of his career triumphs, but is yet to box anywhere near world level.
Meanwhile, ‘The Gypsy King’ is gearing up for a second outing of 2026, recently teasing that he will appear on a Dublin undercard the following week, with fans still guessing as to who will be standing in the opposing corner. A low-risk dance partner is anticipated, so as not to put the all-British banger in any real jeopardy.
Speaking with Boxing News, four-division world champion Canelo looked ahead to the fight, forecasting – and hoping for – a win for Anthony Joshua.
“I think Anthony Joshua [will win]. I am always with Anthony Joshua. It is a good fight but I go with Anthony Joshua.”
Joshua has previously trained alongside Canelo when touring gyms in the United States, working under Alvarez’s lead trainer Eddy Reynoso for a brief trial before opting to instead appoint Robert Garcia ahead of his 2022 rematch with Oleksandr Usyk. He has now settled on the team of old rival and unified champion, Oleksandr Usyk, adding more intrigue to the Fury fight.
