CANELO ALVAREZ welcomes a third fight with Gennady Golovkin. The middleweight rivals fought two closely contested bouts, the first a draw, the second a points victory for Alvarez.
The Mexican’s next fight though will be in the weight division above against Rocky Fielding on December 15 at Madison Square Garden. He has however retained the WBC and WBA titles he won from Golovkin and plans to move back to 160lbs after this contest.
Alvarez has committed to streaming service DAZN as the broadcaster for his next 10 fights but would welcome “GGG” moving over to DAZN to fight him.
“He can do whatever he wants. He can do whatever is convenient for him,” Canelo said of Golovkin. “I’m always willing to make a third fight.
“If we made two, why not make a third one?”
Other than Golovkin he will seek out unification contests at middleweight, with Demetrius Andrade and Danny Jacobs holding the other middleweight world titles outside of his possession, the WBO and IBF belts.
“To return to 160lbs where I feel best, to return to 160 and do what I always do, which is look for the best fights,” he continued. “It’s very important.”
He promises however that he will not take Liverpool’s Rocky Fielding for granted. “I’m doing the same thing in training,” he says. “Each fight there’s a risk, I’m doing my best to minimise that risk.
“God willing I win this [WBA regular 168lbs] world title and I come back to 160lbs.”
Despite Fielding’s advantages in size and reach, Canelo will be going for the knockout when they fight. “Winning by KO is always impressive,” Alvarez warns. “I’m going to give everything in the ring and I’m always going to look for the KO.”
