After a year out of the ring, Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez returns as challenger to take on new champion Christian Mbilli.
It was September 2025 when Alvarez last stepped through the ropes, losing his undisputed super-middleweight titles to Terence Crawford. The 36-year-old Mexican has a chance to win one of those four belts back, challenging undefeated Mbilli, who was elevated from interim to full champion when Crawford retired.
Coming off the same amount of inactivity after drawing with Lester Martinez on the Canelo-Crawford undercard, Mbilli promises to exploit what many believe is an Alvarez well past his best, though his pressure fighting may play into the Mexican’s hands.
Canelo looks to prove he remains one of the best in the world despite entering his 69th professional bout. Defeat here – which would be his fourth overall – could well spell the end of his days at the top level of the sport.
The fight takes place in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, amidst an escalating conflict between Saudi forces and Yemen’s Houthi rebels. Following deadly missile strikes on the city’s airport earlier this month, there were widespread calls to postpone the event, though it goes ahead.
Boxing News will provide live scoring for the main event, as well as a detailed fight result.
