PUERTO RICAN warmonger Miguel Cotto has told Carlos Narváez Rosario of El Vocero newspaper that 2017 will be his last year as a prizefighter.

Cotto has not fought since being outpointed by Canelo Alvarez last November – the longest period of inactivity in his 15-year career.

Whispers in recent weeks of a rematch between the two have become louder and Golden Boy (Alvarez’s promoter) have confirmed that the fight is one of their priorities.

“If they want the fight to materialise, they have until December 31, 2017 to do so,” confirmed Cotto.

“The ball is in the court of Golden Boy Promotions, the only thing they have to keep in mind is the deadline. The weight – 154 or 155lbs – can be discussed.”

The history-making four-weight world champion is clear that titles are no longer a motivator: “The only thing that speaks at the moment is the amount of money that can be generated in each fight and the name of the opponent.”

Cotto expects to meet with his promoter, Roc Nation, after Christmas to plan his move.
