Canelo Alvarez: I am not afraid of any fighter

AHEAD of his monster clash with WBC world middleweight champion Miguel Cotto, Mexican sensation Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez insists he fears no man, but his sole focus is the Puerto Rican warlord.

The pair will meet at a catchweight of 155lbs at the Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas on November 21 and the winner will have none other than Gennady Golovkin as their mandatory challenger.

Alvarez has reportedly claimed he would only meet ‘GGG’ at the same weight he will fight Cotto at, but the flame-haired 25-year-old disputes claims he is afraid of the unbeaten middleweight menace.

“I am not afraid of any fighter, but right now I am focused on Cotto,” he said.

“Once this fight is over we can move on to the next big fight. I want to fight the big fights and am not afraid to take risks. I believe my fighting style and opponents over the years have shown that. I am here to prove I am the best and the best way to do that is fighting the best.”

The former super-welterweight king lost his own unbeaten record to Floyd Mayweather in 2013, but has scalped the likes of Erislandy Lara and James Kirkland since.

With his fiercely-anticipated showdown with Cotto fast approaching, Alvarez also revealed he has been focusing on Miguel’s lethal left hand in training.

“We are very prepared for this fight. It has been a great training camp we have been working on technique to make sure we are not surprised on fight night,” he stated.

“I have had great sparring partners for this fight, focusing on Cotto’s style of fighting. We also know he is a southpaw and that has been something we always work on.”

“Every fight at this level has been difficult and the best that we can do is, be prepared. You can’t predict the outcome of a fight, but we make sure to leave no doubts in the ring.”
