Canadian boxer David Whittom in coma after fight

David Whittom, a former Hughie Fury opponent, suffered a brain haemorrhage after boxing in Canada on Saturday

CANADIAN boxer David Whittom was gravely injured after boxing on a show in Fredericton, New Brunswick. Whittom’s record is 12-24-1 (8). He was halted in the 10th round against Gary Kopas, 8-11-2 (4) on Saturday (May 27).

After the fight Whittom underwent surgey for a brain haemorrhage. He had fallen ill once he’d returned home after the contest. He is currently in a stable condition.

Whittom is 38 years old. In 2013 he boxed Hughie Fury on the Englishman’s pro debut. Fury stopped him in two rounds and Whittom retired from the sport for two years before returning in 2015. The Canadian has boxed the likes Eleider Alvarez and Lateef Kayode in the past and in 2007 boxed future WBC champion Adonis Stevenson.
