Campbell Hatton: ‘My dad told me: do as I say, not as I do’
Mark Robinson

When and why you started boxing:
I was always in the gym ,then around the time my dad had his comeback fight [in 2012] I sort of got a little bit more of an interest and wanted to do it myself.

Favourite all-time fighter:
One that I’m not related to would have to be Jamie Moore and Michael Gomez.

Best fight you’ve seen:
Gomez-Alex Arthur.

Personal career highlight:
I’d probably say my debut in Gibraltar. It was quite a unique occasion and something I probably won’t ever do again, out on the boat and everything like that, so I’d have to say that. There was a little bit of pressure but it was all still enjoyable and I did enjoy it all. It was a massive occasion but all good memories from that.

Toughest opponent:
In the amateurs I fought a lad called Ed Hardy who was a good fighter. He’d won a few national titles. I boxed a lot of national champions in the amateurs so I’d say he’s probably one of them.

Best and worst attributes as a boxer:
I think my best attribute’s my work ethic and I’d say my worst is probably getting drawn into a fight when I don’t really need to.

Training tip:
Make sure that end of the camp you can look back and say I couldn’t have done any more.

Favourite meal/restaurant:
I do love a Chinese. And the rest.

Best friends in boxing:
The lads I train with, Luke Evans, Damian Chambers and our Matt [his uncle and trainer Matthew Hatton].

Other sportsperson you would like to be:
Probably a footballer. I was no good but the money’s good and there’s no one hitting you so I’d probably go with that.

Last film/TV show you saw:
I can’t remember, but my favourite one is Snatch.

Have you ever been starstruck:
I have yeah. I met Liam Gallagher pretty briefly. So I was starstruck by him. I was 15 or 16, so I was buzzing with that. Someone like that I could probably meet him 10 times and I’d still be starstruck.

Last time you cried:
I don’t know.

Best advice received:
One off my dad: Do as I say, not as I do.

Worst rumour about yourself:
There is some bad ones, but none that I’d share!
