On Saturday night, Chris Eubank Jr and Conor Benn collide for a second time in a continuation of their fathers’ rivalry. Now, super-middleweight legend Joe Calzaghe has offered his verdict on the rematch.
A quarter of a century after the first Eubank-Benn meeting, the famous boxing families were represented by different faces at the Tottenham Hotspur stadium in April, where Eubank Jr and Conor Benn fought to a familiar outcome – a Eubank win.
This weekend, the pair are set to meet again, with Eubank seeking a repeat, if not more emphatic, performance, whilst Benn bids for vengeance.
Speaking to TalkSport ahead of the clash, two-division world champion and Eubank Sr conqueror Calzaghe revealed that he is forecasting another Eubank triumph but admitted that the additional time that Benn has had to adjust to the weight makes the contest an intriguing one.
“I wouldn’t want to put a bet on it. If I had to, I’d always go with the size [Eubank Jr] like I did in the first fight.
“I think it’s all about how Benn can adapt slightly. I think he tired down the home stretch. He did great to hang in there, but he did catch Eubank earlier on.
“Is he going to be stronger this time? Because he’s had more time in the weight and Eubank’s not getting any younger. I’m intrigued. It’s going to be an interesting fight.”
The highly-anticipated fight is just over 24 hours away, with the likes of Jack Catterall, Adam Azim and Ishmael Davis also featuring on the undercard.
As part of the build-up, Calzaghe will be making an appearance at Paddy’s Sportsbook at The Hippodrome Casino on November 15.
