CALLUM SMITH is in training as he waits on the date for his World Boxing Super Series semi-final. The fight will take place at some point in February, with the victor moving on to a final against the winner of Chris Eubank Jr vs George Groves later in 2018.

“Callum has started training. He started training last Monday. He’s been doing a bit of punching, a bit of pads, a bit of swimming, a bit of track, switching his body back on. He’s started doing some strength work as well,” his trainer Joe Gallagher told Boxing News.

Smith’s team however is reluctant to go to Berlin for his clash with the German. “We’re just waiting to see where it will be,” his coach said. “Braehmer’s first fight, he had home advantage in Germany, Callum Smith’s first fight he had in Liverpool. They were seeded fighters, Callum Smith was seeded two in the tournament. Now it’s the semi-final, I don’t think either should have home advantage. I think it should be neutral ground.”

He suggested, “I think Dublin is a great fight city in Ireland, somewhere like Amsterdam. There’s venues were it could happen on neutral ground. My concerns are having been there with Matthew Macklin and Felix Sturm. Callum’s been there watching Paul lose his first fight to [Arthur] Abraham.

“Why should Braehmer who’s seeded fourth in the tournament get two home fights?”
