Adrien Broner has made a bold claim on a possible match-up between Gervonta Davis and Naoya Inoue.
Fans have often debated how a clash between Davis and Inoue may play out, despite the two now destined to spend the rest of their careers too far apart in weight for the fight to ever become realistic.
Davis hasn’t competed since his controversial majority decision draw with Lamont Roach in March 2025, and despite rumours of an impending return, it has since been claimed by Bill Haney that he has been told ‘Tank’ won’t be ready until the first quarter of 2027.
In previous years, Davis was regarded as one of the most exciting fighters in the sport, claiming knockout wins over the likes of Ryan Garcia, Rolly Romero, Mario Barrios and Leo Santa Cruz as he claimed world honours in three divisions.
As for Inoue, he was last in action in May when he retained his undisputed super bantamweight crown with a win over Junto Nakatani, and could be set for another super fight in the near future against Jesse ‘Bam’ Rodriguez.
If a bout against Davis was to happen though, perhaps at a middle ground of featherweight, four-division world champion Broner is confident who would come out on top, telling FightHype that ‘Tank’ would earn a quick knockout victory.
“Inoue ain’t going to win. Tank knock him the f**k out. Fast too. I ain’t being biased or nothing.”
Inoue has made it clear that he plans to have one or two more fights at bantamweight before moving up to super-bantamweight as his final division before retirement. Davis, on the other hand, has been linked with fights as high as welterweight upon his return.
