TWO Commonwealth Games medallists will compete for Great Britain in a charity boxing match to raise funds for SportsAid at the English Institute of Sport Sheffield on Thursday October 2.
Bantamweight, Sean McGoldrick and light-welterweight, Sam Maxwell from Liverpool, will both wear the Great Britain vest in their first competitive outings since winning bronze at Glasgow 2014.
The pair will be joined by four other members of GB Boxing’s Podium squad, including Leeds’ 2013 European Championship bronze medallist Jack Bateson, in a Great Britain team which features a blend of experience and youth. The full line-up is:

Tickets for a table of 10 people, which includes wine and a three course meal, cost £1000 and can be purchased by contacting SportsAid direct at Yorkshire@sportsaid.org.uk or 07541 773877. A small number of ringside tables, which also include champagne, are available for £1500.
SportsAid is a national charity which assist young sportsmen and women, who aspire to be Olympic, Paralympic, Commonwealth and world champions, by providing funding and support to help them during the defining early years of their careers.
Since 1976 it has supported over 6,500 young athletes in Yorkshire and in the recent Commonwealth Games, 24 medals were won by SportsAid supported athletes from the region. At the London 2012 Olympics, five of the seven athletes from Yorkshire that won a gold medal had been funded at some point in their careers by SportsAid.
In the last 20 years, 19 boxers in Yorkshire have been funded by SportsAid including 2012 Olympic Champion, Luke Campbell and 2014 Commonwealth Games silver medallist Qais Ashfaq.
Former Sports Minister and SportsAid Ambassador, Richard Caborn, added: “I would like to thank both GB Boxing and England Boxing for their support of this event and assisting a charity that has helped a number of its athletes in recent years.
“It promises to be a superb evening of sport as both France and Great Britain have selected very strong teams which include a host of national champions.”
