BRIAN Norman Jr retained his WBO world welterweight title in ruthless fashion, dispatching Jin Sasaki with a punishing fifth-round stoppage victory.

Their one-sided spectacle took place at the Ota-City General Gymnasium in Tokyo, Japan, where Norman, 28-0 (22 KOs), ultimately produced a truly destructive finish on away soil.

Prior to that, the 24-year-old had dropped his man twice in the opening round, setting the tone for what swiftly became his career-best performance.

As expected, second-ranked WBO contender Sasaki, 19-2-1 (17 KOs), flew out the traps like a bull in a China shop, only for Norman to take a half step back before flooring him with a looping left hook to the dome.

Moments later, the American scored his second knockdown with a blistering combination, catching his reckless opponent, once again, with a brain-scrambling shot upstairs.

Sasaki, to his credit, responded with a tenacious effort, but it was the more dynamic footwork of Norman that proved most effective in the following round.

With that advantage, ‘The Assassin II’ was all too happy to create a series of angles, establishing his right hand as a potent weapon through the first two frames.

A similar story then unfolded in the third round, with Sasaki swarming forward while, at the same time, demonstrating virtually no method to his madness.

Naturally, that bat-out-of-hell approach only allowed Norman to dish out further punishment, all the while resuming his defensively-polished and technically-refined display.

It was not long, then, before the champion delivered a thundering left hook, devastating enough to send Sasaki crashing back down to the canvas in the fifth round.

Immediately, the Japanese challenger seemed to be in a bad way, but thankfully, he was then able to scramble back to his feet soon after the emphatic finish arrived.
