FORMER world super-featherweight title challenger Zelfa Barrett returns to the ring on Saturday June 7. You can watch his fight live and free on the Boxing News YouTube and Facebook channels.
Barrett faces Mexican Cristian Bielma at the Bolton Whites Hotel in the main event of Steve Wood’s latest VIP Promotions card. The 31-year-old Barrett will look to get back to winning ways after a disappointing loss to Jazza Dickens back in February. He has since made the decision to appoint a new trainer in Joe Gallagher after parting ways with Pat Barrett.
Gallagher is now tasked with getting the best out of Barrett – a fighter with world class ability who only three years ago was close to winning the IBF world title against Shavkatdzhon Rakhimov. The chief support bout to Dmitry Bivol vs. Gilberto Ramirez was a see-saw affair with Rakhimov down and in trouble in round three. The champion recovered, however, to force a stoppage in the ninth frame.
Tonight’s opponent – Bielma – has shared the ring with world class operators in Luis Alberto Lopez and Angel Fierro and in typical Mexican fashion will give his all to cause the upset.
Barrett vs. Bielma tops a 10-fight card featuring unbeaten talents Ashley Marron, Jake Abrol, Thomas Varey, Imad Nasseb and more.
