DERECK CHISORA’s trainer Don Charles has faced Tyson Fury from the opposite corner. But he believes boxing and the heavyweight division needs Fury back.
“One person I would dearly like to see back in the mix is Tyson Fury. I never thought I’d live to say this but boxing misses him. I miss the guy,” Charles told Boxing News.
Fury defeated Wladimir Klitschko in Dusseldorf in 2015 to win the WBA, WBO and IBF heavyweight titles. He vacated his titles to deal with personal issues and controversy over a drug test.
“Remember you have to respect this guy. This is a guy who went out and made all these belts that are available now possible. Because the Klitschkos held those belts hostage. They held those belts hostage and heavyweight boxing became very boring. I’m not criticising the Klitschkos as ambassadors, as clean living individuals. In terms of the boxing they held those belts hostage. It’s so apparent that since the great Tyson Fury went over to Germany, to a foreign land and captured the belts suddenly the division in particular has become so vibrant because of Mr. Fury,” Charles said.
“He’s definitely earned my respect from doing so and he’s made it possible for Anthony Joshua to win his belt.”
“We need to get behind this man,” he added. “The division needs you.”
