Terence Crawford‘s longtime trainer Brian ‘BoMac’ McIntyre has responded to speculation that ‘Bud’ will return to the ring.

Crawford hung up the gloves in December following his monumental victory over Canelo Alvarez three months earlier, retiring with a perfect 42-0 record and as a five-division world champion

Since then, he has been continuously linked to a return, and those rumours were fuelled by recent training footage. Speaking to Boxing Scene, ‘BoMac’ discouraged any speculation, making it clear that there is no chance Crawford would return, and insists he is only focusing on helping others in the gym.

“Hell no, he ain’t coming back. He’s done. He don’t need to come back.

“I mean, he’s looking sharp, man. His weight is fine. He’s always in the gym, always playing basketball, always on the move, always training. So he looks good.

“You want that as a trainer. You want one of the best pound-for-pound fighters of all time to  just come down and hang out and stay with you guys for a group and give his assessments on how things are looking and get the feedback, giving Lester some pointers here and there.

“You want that, man. That’s just gratifying to the coaches because, you know, he cares.

“He cares about the other guy that’s in his camp, about where their journey’s at, where their journey’s going. So that’s gratifying to me.”

The fighter ‘Bo Mac’ refers to is Lester Martinez, who returns to action on August 29 when he faces Luka Plantic, and if Crawford is helping in the gym, then Martinez could certainly be a dangerous commodity.

If the Guatemalan wins, he will be in prime position to face the winner of previous opponent Christian Mbilli’s first WBC super-middleweight title defence against Canelo in October.
