Ben Fields takes another unbeaten record

BEN FIELDS carried on his gatecrashing streak at the Eventim Olympia. The Digbeth man has now won his last three after taking yet another unbeaten record. Atop the latest North West offering from VIP Promotions head honcho Steve Wood, Fields took on hometown man Nathan Bennett, exclusively live on VIP Boxing TV, and came out with a close 58-57 points win on referee Jamie Kirkpatrick’s tally.

Meanwhile, local duo Tom Aitchison and Marcos Molloy both impressed on their first starts overseen by Mark Lyson. Aitchinson ripped in vicious body shots against Blackwood’s Paul Ducie en route to a 40-36 victory, while Molloy was victorious by the same margin against Devon’s Jamie Speight.

Liverpool’s Tom Farrell returned with a 60-53 points win over the latest product from the Spanish-based Nicaraguan journeymen conveyor belt, Eligio Palacios, who was dropped in the third, in a cobweb-blowing exercise officiated by Kirkpatrick. Farrell now moves on to his fight with Sean Dodd next month.

His fellow Scouser Sean Cairns outpointed Westbrook’s Ricky Leach in a rematch, getting a 40-36 win in another of Kirkpatrick’s assignments, while the Preston-based official also awarded Brian Phillips a 60-56 win over Birmingham’s Waqas Mohammed.

Jay Farrell returned from his first defeat with a points win. The Liverpool cruiserweight outscored Lithuania’s Dmitrij Kalinovskij on Mark Lyson’s card by 60-55.

Lyson also scored against Skelmersdale’s Steve Brogan as he was outpointed by former Cameroon Olympian Abdon Cesar, now based in County Durham, by 59-56.

And Liverpool’s Joe Kavanagh got the action underway with a win over a familiar foe Joe Beeden.

The southpaw had boxed the Swindon man on his debut back in June at the same venue and this time got a 40-35 victory over four-twos on Kirkpatrick’s scorecard after dropping Beeden in the third.

The Verdict A good competitive top-of-the-bill saves Wood’s latest North West offering as Fields takes another scalp.
