Tony Bellew has hailed the terrific talent and silky skills of one British fighter in particular.

Bellew retired from the sport in 2018, but since then has gone on to become one of the leading pundits in the UK scene.

That has seen Bellew regularly up close with a number of talents, and it is Giorgio Visioli who appears to have caught the eye of the the former WBC cruiserweight champion.

The slick southpaw made a successful defence of his English title last Saturday, scoring a dominant unanimous decision victory over Levi Giles through 10 rounds.

But despite producing a polished performance on the undercard of George Liddard vs Tyler Denny, many felt that Visioli could have kept his foot on the gas and secured a grandstand finish.

He did, after all, floor his man with a sustained onslaught in the fifth round, but then opted to regain his composure rather than charge in with any reckless attacks.

In doing so, Visioli remained defensively astute and left the ring without so much as a scratch on his face, knowing that Giles’ power was never likely to trouble him.

Against a bigger puncher, though, Bellew suspects the unbeaten lightweight will need to be more assertive, while also telling IFL TV that, talent-wise, he is on another level to most other prospects.

“I rate him very highly, but he’s got to learn to stop f**king about and playing with his food.

“When you’re as good as he is… It just takes one clip on the chin and you can get put out like a light.

“As he goes through the classes in the division, he’ll realise that. When you’re hurting fighters, just get rid of them. Don’t mess around with it.

“[But] he is possibly one of the most talented fighters I’ve seen in the last four or five years. He’s got that much ability – he really has – so I’m massive on Giorgio Visioli.”

Prior to defeating Giles, Visioli claimed another points victory over Joe Howarth, headlining a Matchroom show for the first time in his young career.

Since then, the Eddie Hearn-promoted prospect has called for a clash with Curmel Moton, an American rising star who he has previously faced in a heated sparring session.

Whether their showdown can materialise, it remains to be seen, but Visioli has suggested that they could collide on the undercard of Floyd Mayweather vs Manny Pacquiao 2.
