Tony Bellew has singled out one unbeaten star who could go on to achieve great things in the sport.
Bellew had a career to remember in his own right, winning the WBC cruiserweight title with a stoppage victory over Ilunga Makabu at his beloved Goodison Park in Liverpool back in 2016.
Back-to-back victories over David Haye followed, before Bellew called time on his professional career following a defeat to Oleksandr Usyk at the Manchester Arena in 2018.
After hanging up the gloves, Bellew has gone on to become a key pundit within boxing, and he has named a fighter that has extremely impressed him in his short career to date.
Posting on social media, the Liverpudlian heaped praise on prospect Pat Brown, who competes in the cruiserweight division like Bellew did for many years.
“This young man could be the complete package!! He’s gonna take some beating at Cruiser!!”
Brown represented Great Britain at the 2024 Olympics in Paris, before turning professional the following year. The 26-year-old has won all five of his professional fights to date, most recently stopping Felix Valera inside two rounds back in November.
He is set to return to action in April when he headlines a Matchroom Boxing event in Altrincham, going up against Vasil Ducar, and if Matchroom Boxing promoter Eddie Hearn is to believed, Brown could be set for a crack at world honours sooner rather than later.
It could be a difficult task for Brown though, with Gilberto Ramirez holding the WBO and WBA titles, Noel Mikaelyan serving as WBC champion, and Jai Opetaia currently in possession of the IBF belt, though an official decision is expected soon over if the New Zealander will remain champion.
