Seven months after Chris Eubank Jr outpointed Conor Benn, the pair are set to run it back, and Tony Bellew has now offered his thoughts on the rematch.
A quarter of a century on from his father’s initial grudge match triumph against Nigel Benn, Eubank Jr replicated his success and secured a famous unanimous decision victory over Conor Benn in April.
Now, just months after a well-documented difficult weight cut and trip to hospital during the aftermath, 36-year-old Eubank Jr looks to do the double over his foe, once again hampered by a 160lb weight limit and a restrictive rehydration clause.
Speaking at a Sports Casting press conference ahead of the rematch, former cruiserweight world champion Bellew believes the second instalment of this rivalry may have come too soon for Eubank.
“With the turnaround speed of this fight, it will benefit Conor Benn more; the younger man will be the fresher man.
I don’t want to put him as the favourite, but [because] the older and heavier man [Eubank] will come on stronger later on in the fight.
I just feel that he learned more from the last fight, Conor Benn, and I think this time he possibly does get rid of him [inside of the distance].
He had him out on his feet two or three times [in the last fight] and he just didn’t have it in him to press him.”
Eubank and Benn will top another bill at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium this weekend; joined by the likes of Adam Azim, Jack Catterall and Ishmael Davis on the undercard.
