SEVEN months on from their initial encounter, Badou Jack and Noel Mikaelian are set to meet for a second time, as the cruiserweight duo headline a December card in California in a battle for the WBC cruiserweight title.
After a lengthy 26-month hiatus, Badou Jack, 29-3-3 (17 KOs), returned to action to defend his WBC crown against Noel Mikaelian, 27-3 (12 KOs), on the Canelo-Scull undercard back in May, edging a controversial majority-decision to retain his belt.
Yet, just weeks later, the WBC ordered a rematch between Jack and the Armenian challenger after a successful appeal was lodged by the latter’s promoter, Don King.
In a card promoted by Steve Bash’s ‘Bash Boxing’, Jack and Mikaelian will top a 12-fight offering billed as ‘Championing Mental Health 2: Rematch Season’, at the intimate venue of Ace Mission Studios in Los Angeles on Saturday, December 13.
In the co-main event, two-time national amateur champion Brook Sibrian, 8-2 (4 KOs), takes on Gloria Munguilla, 8-2 (0 KOs), in a clash for the vacant WBC International light-flyweight title.
Meanwhile, Angel Lozano, 7-0 (5 KOs) and Samvel Gandilyan, 7-0-1 (3 KOs), will seek to maintain their undefeated records in fights in their respective light-heavyweight and lightweight divisions.
It is also worth keeping an eye on the towering Deni Davtian, 4-0 (3 KOs), who stands at 6’ 4” despite campaigning at super-lightweight. The 22-year-old Ukrainian will compete in his first six-round affair, with an opponent yet to be confirmed.
Isaac Anguiano, 9-1-1 (4 KOs), known as ‘Lil’ Devil’ competes in the only other bout of the card that will be scheduled for more than four rounds. The Californian bantamweight lost to current IBF #12 flyweight Abraham Perez as a 19-year-old, in the lone defeat of his career thus far.
