David Haye must get in line, insists promoter Eddie Hearn as Anthony Joshua v Tyson Fury remains the priority for November or December

IT’S Anthony Joshua v Tyson Fury that “AJ’s” promoter Eddie Hearn insists is the priority for later this year – rather than a showdown with the comebacking David Haye who won his second, facile fight following a three-and-a-half-year hiatus last weekend. Hearn admits Haye is a potential future opponent for Watford’s IBF heavyweight champion, discussions have already taken place regarding a unification clash with fellow-unbeaten, WBA Super and WBO king Fury, after Joshua negotiates his first defence – against American Dominic Breazeale – on June 25 at the O2 Arena in London.

“The main focus for Anthony is to win all the belts in the division so in that respect Tyson Fury is our main priority,” Hearn told Boxing News. “That fight can happen in November/December or next spring – I’ve already had some positive discussions with Peter Fury who makes the decisions with Tyson and I honestly believe that’s a fight that can be made over a cup of tea.”

Haye need not despair but Hearn seems to suggest a significant upgrade in the quality of the Bermondsey man’s oposition is required to make a Joshua contest viable.

“David Haye is definitely on the list but nothing he has done since his return has made that fight more appealing,” he remarked. “It’s a fight that’s always there for us and I’m sure one day it will happen but Anthony Joshua v Tyson Fury and [WBC ruler, Deontay] Wilder, especially with our Showtime deal, are our top priority right now.”
