AFTER losing to Scott Fitzgerald earlier this year, Liverpool’s Anthony Fowler came back with a crucial victory over Brian Rose at the Exhibition Centre in his hometown on Friday (August 2).

Fowler went the 10 round distance but won a unanimous decision, 98-92 for Howard Foster and Michael Alexander and 97-93 for Terry O’Connor.

“Only 11 fights into my career, I had to be very patient last night under a lot of pressure and follow my coach’s tactics against a very experienced, quality fighter who’s boxed at world level. Believe me I’m only going get better,” he said.

Fowler is hoping for a rematch with Fitzgerald. “Hopefully Scott beats [British champion Ted] Cheeseman, because I believe Scott is a better fighter and then it would be a dream come true to box Scott at the end of the year. I don’t care where it is.”

On the undercard Jack Cullen won the English middleweight title when he halted John Harding.

Lewis Ritson also stopped Marek Jedrzejewski. The reigning British and European super-lightweight champion Robbie Davies also had a tick over contest, beating Michal Dufek.

The two exchanged words. “He walked past us and obviously I’d just been listening in the back, what he’d said,” Davies Jr told Sky Sports after his win. “I obviously had my own fight to think of, so I just stared at him. He was mumbling something.

“But we’ve been staying in the same hotel, and the god’s honest truth, my hand on my heart, every time I’ve looked at him, he’s looked away.

“He will build the hype for the TV, but when it was just me and him, it was me who had front and not him.

“If the offer is good enough and it makes sense to me and my team, I’ll stop him.”
