ANTHONY Cacace is one of the fighters who has signed a contract extension with Queensberry Promotions. This comes simultaneously as Cacace’s career enters its next (and possibly final) chapter. The IBF announced purse bids have been called for Cacace to defend his super-featherweight title against Eduardo Nunez. November 7 is the deadline to sort things out for the mandatory defence.
This promises to be a tasty affair, as Nunez is 27 years old—27 fights with 27 knockouts! Eager to come out and engage in warfare, Cacace will need to use his physical strength on the inside, switch-hitting abilities, and underrated power to keep the Mexican honest. If it lands in Belfast, the atmosphere would be electric for such a style mix.
Nunez’s sole loss came back in 2018, in a tight regional six-rounder, so it can effectively be written off. He also holds a win over Shavkatdzhon Rakhimov, not that you would know it by checking records authority website BoxRec, which still refuses to list the contest, as has been the case recently with bouts under certain entities and jurisdictions. Cacace won’t have time to worry about all that, as the mullering provides more than enough proof that Nunez is a live dog in any fight, regardless of where it is being recorded.
Alongside the ‘Andytown Apache,’ a selection of talent has also penned long-term deals under the Frank Warren banner, including 27-year-old WBA featherweight champion Nick Ball, last seen pounding Ronny Rios into submission, plus reigning European middleweight champion and world title aspirant Hamzah Sheeraz.
Hot heavyweight prospect Moses Itauma is one of Frank’s shining lights for the future. Trained by Ben Davison, Itauma only turns 20 in December, yet has impressed with his dazzling displays of destruction. Moses fights Dempsey McKean on the Usyk-Fury 2 undercard.
Liam Davies and Sam Noakes are the remaining two Queensberry re-signs. Davies boxes Shabaz Masoud on November 2 and appears ready for a world-level test. Only the small matter of Naoya Inoue is standing in the way presently. Noakes, meanwhile, is the heavy-handed European lightweight champion.
