ANOTHER Deontay Wilder opponent has failed a drug test. Andrzej Wawrzyk was scheduled to challenge the WBC heavyweight champion on February 25 but the Pole has tested positive for a banned substance according to reports.

ESPN reports that Wawrzyk was found with an anabolic steroid in his system after testing carried out by the Voluntary Anti-Doping Association as part of the WBC’s Clean Boxing Program.

It’s another source of frustration for Wilder, who was meant to box Alexander Povtekin last year only to see the Russian fail a drug test. Wilder defended his title against Chris Arreola and, after recovering from a hand injury, now needs to find a new opponent for his comeback.

His championship reign is still missing a major, defining fight. It’s not a good time for a heavyweight to be afflicted by inactivity, even though none of it is of his own making. The division is packed appealing potential opponents, with Anthony Joshua looking to unify titles against Wladimir Klitschko, WBO champion Joseph Parker calling for a showdown with Wilder and even David Haye rising to prominence in a high profile fight.
