Andy Lee-Billy Joe Saunders postponed again

Andy Lee’s defence of his WBO world middleweight title against Billy Joe Saunders has been postponed from its October 10 date due to Saunders sustaining a cut over his eye while sparring.

Promoter Frank Warren hopes to reschedule the contest for late November or early December, but is awaiting an assessment from a doctor before a decision can be made.

It is unclear whether Lee will still defend his title at the Manchester Arena on October 10, a bill which is still going ahead and features Terry Flanagan’s lightweight world title defence against Diego Magdaleno and Liam Smith v John Thompson for the vacant WBO world light-middleweight title.

Warren noted that another world title fight would replace Lee-Saunders in Manchester.

The fight was originally made for September 19, but had to be pushed to October 10 after Lee picked up a virus.

Warren also confirmed the Lee-Saunders will not take place at Thomond Park stadium in Limerick, where it was originally scheduled for, due to weather restrictions at that time of year.

More details will be confirmed soon.
