ANDREW SELBY, one of Britain’s most decorated amateur boxers, has turned professional, signing a management deal with Chris Sanigar.

Andrew, the younger brother of IBF featherweight champion Lee Selby, has won a World championship silver medal, two European golds and competed in the last Olympic Games.

“It was an honour to represent Team GB. I would like to thank Robert McCracken and all of the coaching team, management and back room staff who supported me through my amateur career. I feel the time is right for me to pursue a pro boxing career and I can’t wait for the big fights ahead,” Andrew said in a statement.

Chris Sanigar told Boxing News, “We’re not going to fast-track him, we’re going to wait and see how he gets on on his debut and that will gives us more indication. Just because they’re top class amateurs, it doesn’t always mean the pro game’s going to suit you. We’ll take it steady.”

Andrew has been with Lee sparring in America, at gyms including the Wild Card gym, where Lee sparred with the likes of rising Mexican star Oscar Valdez and Andrew sparred Daniel Ramirez and Jayro Duran.

As well as training with professionals, Selby also excelled in the World Series of Boxing, a pro style format for Olympic boxers. “He had 10 fights in the WSB,” Chris continued. “It definitely gives you a headstart because there’s no headguards, boxing very experience boys, top class kids as well,” Chris continued. “He’s got a lot to learn but he’s got that natural ability and all that experience.”
