Andre Ward: ‘The pressure is all on Floyd Mayweather’
Stacey Verbeek

THE world’s leading light-heavyweight and the best boxer pound-for-pound in the sport Andre Ward is intrigued, rather than appalled, by the curious prospect of Floyd Mayweather fighting UFC brawler Conor McGregor.

“I’m going to watch it. I’m interested. I look at it for what it’s worth. You always have the option to not buy it,” Ward pointed out. “I know about McGregor and I have my thoughts on how it will go. But I want to see.

“Floyd is supposed to be arguably one of the greatest of all time. I just can’t wrap my brain around McGregor having answers for Floyd. Even at 40 years old. That’s just another level. There’s levels to this. On the flipside, he’s not a guy that you can just not train for. McGregor’s a big guy, he’s got pride, he’s coming. He’s got a dynamite left hand, he’s got a sneaky left hand.

“It’s the type of situation, it’s tough. The pressure is really on Floyd because there’s no room for error. There’s zero room for error and it’s going to be tricky for McGregor not being able to take down or kick. He’s got to work on that stuff over the next two to three months. The left hand is the main thing that Floyd has to watch out for. That’s the main asset that McGregor brings to the table. But Floyd should take care of business in good fashion. But I’m still surprised they got it done. I’m shocked.”

Ward wouldn’t rule out a big name UFC fighter crossing over to challenge him. “I don’t have any in mind but bring a few forward and we can talk about it. I’m not opposed to it,” he said. “We’re going to have boxing rules though.”
