PITTING Amir Khan against Kell Brook would serve up one of the biggest fights in British boxing. Matchroom, who promoted Carl Froch-George Groves in May, would love to return to Wembley stadium for a fight of that magnitude. But Khan, who fights Devon Alexander on December 13 in Las Vegas, harbors ambitions of his own and craves a fight with world number one, Floyd Mayweather.

“[Khan-Brook] all comes down to the Mayweather fight,” Matchroom’s Eddie Hearn told Boxing News. “So if he doesn’t get Mayweather, he has to fight Brook and I don’t believe he’s going to get Mayweather. But when he gets beat by Brook he has nowhere to go. When he gets beat by Mayweather he can still fight Brook. So in his head, probably rightfully so, he’s probably thinking let’s get the Mayweather fight. But Brook against Khan is another one, it’s massive.

“Once he finds out he’s not going to get Mayweather then he has to fight Kell Brook and now he’s back on Sky as well it sets it up perfectly.”

But there is a way to go before this all British clash could come to fruition. “He [Khan] will probably say, ‘Oh, it’s 70-30 for me.’ But Kell’s the world champion. It’s a bit like [Carl] Frampton against [Scott] Quigg. They want a bigger split. Just make the fight happen,” Hearn continued. “You both bring something big to the table here, just get it done, all earn a load of money, give people what they want. It’s really not difficult. Frampton’s going to fight [Chris] Avalos in February and then Quigg’s actually having his hand opened up in December to have a look at. Quigg’s not going to be out till April, May and by then the Frampton fight could be ready. So I believe that fight will happen.”
