OHARA Davies is gearing up for a spectacular return on the undercard of an Amir Khan-promoted show, headlined by former world title challenger Andrew Tabiti.
The event, delivered by Khan and Legacy Promotions, promises to showcase an array of African talent when it takes place in Ghana on June 13.
Topping the bill, Tabiti will lock horns with local puncher Jacob Dickson in his first cruiserweight outing, scheduled for just eight rounds, since 2022.
The American gave a titanic effort, utilising his fluid movement and sharp reflexes, before getting halted by Yuniel Dorticos back in 2019.
But since then, Tabiti has lost his only meaningful fight – a unanimous decision to heavyweight prospect Justis Huni – while amassing just four stoppage victories against limited opposition.
His next opponent, it could be said, represents a similar level, with Dickson’s only fight outside of Ghana ending in an emphatic first-round stoppage defeat.
The fact that he is now campaigning back at 200lbs, though, is an encouraging sign for Tabiti’s career moving forward as, even at the age of 35, he nonetheless remains a dynamic operator.
As for Davies, 25-4 (18 KOs), the pantomime villain of British boxing has performed an almighty U-turn after announcing his retirement towards the end of last year.
‘Two Tanks’ comes off a punishing eighth-round stoppage defeat to rising star Adam Azim but, while his best days are seemingly behind him, the Londoner has since been presented with an opportunity he simply could not turn down.
Albeit against an obscure welterweight in Mohamed Aliseni, Davis looks forward to ticking a long awaited African showdown off his bucket list.
Khan, too, is equally ecstatic ahead of what looks to be an intriguing venture with AK Promotions.
“Ghana is a place I would’ve loved to fight – the energy, the history, the passion for boxing is unreal,” said the former two-division world champion and Olympic silver medallist.
“As a former world champion, I know how important it is to open doors for the next generation. That’s why I’m back, not in the ring but behind the scenes , to help build something lasting.
“We’re here to leave a legacy and light the path forward for African boxing.”
