AMIR KHAN has enrolled in the WBC’s Clean Boxing Program after missing the initial deadline and being dropped from their rankings.

The WBC gave all their champions and top 15 ranked contenders in every division until October 11 to enrol in the program, and revealed a list of 25 fighters – including Khan – who had missed that date.

However Khan, who sat in the No 1 spot at welterweight but has since been replaced by Andre Berto, today announced he has enrolled in the program in a bid to retain his mandatory challenger status.

The WBC are likely to reinstall Khan back into the top spot in their next set of rankings, which should be released next month.

Khan has not fought since his knockout loss to Canelo Alvarez in May having been sidelined following surgery on his hand to try and remedy an ongoing problem. He hopes to return to action early next year, and could be in line to fight current WBC welterweight champion Danny Garcia, who knocked him out in 2012.

The Clean Boxing Program requires random, year-round, unannounced testing for the top 15 fighters in each division and is administered by VADA.
