Dave Allen has named Daniel Dubois as one of the greatest British heavyweights of all time, while considering how he would fare against Tyson Fury.

The 29-year-old dominated his rematch with Fabio Wardley last Saturday, scoring a second-round finish after flooring his man with a right hand in the opener.

It was in the first 17 seconds, in fact, that Dubois connected with the monstrous shot and sent Wardley to the canvas, before coming close to stopping his opponent later in the round.

Then, in the following session, trainer Ben Davison threw in the towel and, as a result of his destructive performance, Dubois retained his WBO title.

He had, of course, become a two-time world heavyweight champion by dethroning Wardley in May, that time surviving two early knockdowns before completing his stoppage in round 11.

With prior stoppages over Anthony Joshua and Filip Hrgovic, too, Dubois has arguably cemented himself as the most formidable active heavyweights, while Oleksandr Usyk, who remains the lineal champion, seems close to calling time on his illustrious career.

Speaking to talkSPORT, heavyweight veteran Allen even went as far as to say that both Fury and Joshua should avoid facing the knockout artist.

“[Dubois] could go down as one of the best heavyweights of all time. If you strip it back, and we’re talking purely boxing – wins and losses, who you boxed, how you did it – he’s already up there as one of the best British heavyweights of all time.

“Fury and Joshua, for me … they should leave Dubois alone. I’d be leaving Dubois well alone if I’m them guys.”

If either Fury or Joshua were interested in colliding with Dubois, then the winner of their showdown on December 11 – which will be for the WBA ‘super’ title – could explore a unification match with the Londoner in 2027.
