Alan Minter’s goodbye

Former champ Alan Minter to be laid to rest

Alan Minter’s goodbye

ON Friday (October 9), former world middleweight champion Alan Minter will be laid to rest. His funeral will be a private affair due to limited numbers, but the family have arranged for Minter, on a horse-drawn carriage, to pass through Crawley Hight Street at 12.35 in the afternoon.

Ross Minter, a former fighter and Alan’s son, said: “It would mean a lot to me and the family if we can get as many people as possible to line the street and pay tribute and applaud the procession as they did when my dad returned to Crawley after winning the undisputed middleweight championship in 1980.

“We will then have a closed funeral, as unfortunately there are only 30 people allowed. The service will be streamed at a private venue for friends of my dad’s. I look forward to seeing some of you on Friday.”
