ADAM Azim looks to keep his tools sharp ahead of what promises to be a far more appealing showdown later this year.
It was announced just yesterday that the explosive super-lightweight contender will enter a keep-busy clash this Saturday, squaring off against Mexican campaigner Eliot Chavez.
But with the pair featuring on the undercard of Callum Simpson vs Ivan Zucco at Oakwell Stadium, home of Barnsley Football Club, Azim, 13-0 (10 KOs), is nonetheless eager to produce a typically dazzling performance.
He is, after all, coming off a scintillating display against Sergey Lipinets, flooring the former world champion before halting proceedings with a ruthless ninth-round finish.
The 23-year-old’s ability to mix it up on the inside, too, was showcased throughout their one-sided encounter, revealing just another aspect of his already versatile skill set.
Azim’s next opponent, meanwhile, is perhaps best known for his victory over Mauricio Lara – a first-round stoppage, no less – back in 2020.
Along with his other six professional defeats, though, Chavez also found himself on the receiving end of a ninth-round disqualification against Harlem Eubank in 2022.
But in any case, the 30-year-old should, if nothing else, offer a few rounds of resistance before the hand of Azim is inevitably raised.
After that, ‘The Assassin’ claims that a more meaningful outing should arrive sooner rather than later, keeping fans eagerly awaiting a major announcement.
If asked directly, the opponent that every British fan would select is, of course, leading WBC contender Dalton Smith, who, as it happens, could be needing a dance partner before securing his world title shot.
“I’m already training hard for a big fight, so when the opportunity came up to get on this card, I jumped at it,” Azim said in a press release.
“I discussed it with my team and [Boxxer promoter] Ben Shalom, and we felt it was the right time to get in some solid competitive rounds against a tough opponent.”
