60 second interview: Lucy Wildheart

Andrew Fairley talks to egg-mad trainaholic Lucy Wildheart

60 second interview: Lucy Wildheart
Lucy Wildheart

When and why you started boxing:
I was 20 years old when I started. I wanted to be a world champion and I’m still on that path.

Favourite all-time fighter:
Holly Holm. She’s different and looks like a lovely person.

Best fight you’ve seen:
Marvin Hagler versus Thomas Hearns – “The War” from 1985.

Personal career highlight:
My upcoming fight with Estelle Mossely. Also, winning my last fight in March against Anissa Benyoub [sd 10].

Toughest opponent:
Elaine Greenan. It was like punching a brick wall. I had to constantly move around for six rounds to beat her [on points seven months ago].

Best and worst attributes as a boxer:
My main strength is that I can’t stop training. I want more all the time. If my trainer says ‘Jump’, I ask, ‘How high?’ My weakness would probably be a lack of patience!

Training tip:
Listen to your coach and practise what you’ve been working on every day. Never skip a session without a valid reason.

Favourite meal/restaurant:
Osteria Due Amici – an Italian restaurant in Upminster. I’m also egg-mad and I long for the Swedish black pudding my mum brings over for me each time she visits.

Best friends in boxing:
My trainer and manager, Mr Colin Lynes.

Other sportsman you would like to be:
Ingemar Stenmark. He’s a former World Cup alpine ski racer. The champion’s champion!

Last film/TV show you saw:
Dynasty on Netflix. A fantastic series with lots of drama!

Who would play you in a film of your life:
Lindsay Lohan.

Have you ever been starstruck:
Funnily enough, at [former WBC female super-welterweight champion] Mikaela Lauren’s wedding, Kristjan Lootus was sitting on my table. He’s a famous professional dancer from the TV programme, Let’s Dance. We were on the dance floor for hours that night!

Last time you cried:
At a charity event earlier this year. I gave a speech and became overwhelmed with the support I’ve received from all the locals. Having only been in the UK for around a year, it’s remarkable.

Best advice received:
‘It has to hurt to be the best.’ I live by that quote every day.

Worst rumour about yourself:
When I first came over to the UK, someone spread rumours that I take in homeless people at my flat and wash them!

Something not many people know about you:
I’m really good at riding motorbikes!
