BOXING legend Manny Pacquiao has promised the fans some surprises and a touch of inspiration when he returns to face Mario Barrios on July 19. Speaking to PBC interviewer Brian Campbell during last night’s Plant-Resendiz broadcast, the Filipino star reinforced his opponent choice after such a long layoff.

“I believe fighting with Barrios, we can give a good fight and we can entertain the fans. I mean, that’s pretty sure, because Barrios is a good fighter also, he’s a champion,” said Pacquiao, who must answer the lingering question over how much his creaking frame has left to offer.

“You know me, I always bring surprises to the fans, like what I did before. I have to train hard and make sure that I’m in a good position in the fight.”

Pacquiao’s difficult task does have a golden carrot attached if he can turn back the hands of time and dispose of Barrios. Following the likes of Bernard Hopkins, George Foreman and Archie Moore into the history books as an over-40 achiever, one month after being inducted into the Hall of Fame, would cap off a staggering career. It’s all part of an inspiring journey that refuses to slow down.

“That’s what I’m trying to do, to be an inspiration to the young kids and also the people who love boxing. It’s a great honour for me to be inducted into the Hall of Fame. That’s history. I can’t believe it. I can’t imagine in my boxing career I will get in the Hall of Fame,” said Pacquiao.
