Lucas Matthysse: ‘Beating Victor Postol will take me to a different level’

LOOKING forward to his October 3 clash with Victor Postol at the StubHub Center in Carson, Lucas Matthysse said, “I feel very good, we have been doing a lot of sparring against fighters who are taller and bigger to make sure we are prepared. I think this is important, I want to make sure I am comfortable in the ring against Postol come October 3.

“This is a great opportunity for me. I want to win the title. Winning the [vacant WBC] title will elevate me to a different level in my career. It will give me a different name and another status in the boxing community.

“This is the opportunity to continue fighting the best and the bigger names in the division.”

Matthysse’s trainer Luis Barrera added, “I believe the fight will go the distance and we have made sure that Lucas is prepared.

“We will be victorious on October 3. Lucas is ready for this fight and will show everyone what he is capable of as a fighter. Matthysse will give a great fight. As a fighter he surprises me everyday and I am proud to be part of this team.

“Training in Junie is the best place for Lucas. I believe we have shown that in the ring in his last two fights and we will do so again on October 3. You do not need to leave the country, to be champion.”
