IN the end the class and power of Canelo Alvarez was too much for Liam Smith, as he halted the gallant Englishman in nine rounds with a sickening blow to the body inside the AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas, capturing the WBO super-welterweight title in the process.

Before that, though, Smith played his part in an entertaining tussle, albeit one that looked exceptionally hard to win  from the start.
