Katie Taylor and Amanda Serrano will meet in summer trilogy battle

KATIE Taylor and Amanda Serrano are all set to go at it for a third time, on July 11, back in New York’s Madison Square Garden, where the first rumble took place, Most Valuable Promotions have announced. The third installment will be broadcast exclusively live on Netflix with undisputed super-lightweight honours on the line.

Taylor won their first fight by split decision. That was down at lightweight, and the iconic Irishwoman had to overcome a mid-fight rocky patch to prevail. The second bout took place last year in Texas, on the undercard of Mike Tyson versus Jake Paul. Taylor won again, this time by razor-thin unanimous decision, as all three judges totalled 95-94 in her favour.

Left with a bad cut, Serrano, a seven-weight world champion, complained bitterly about Katie’s use of the head. Taylor was deducted a point in the eighth round for said offence, but it was not enough to sway things in the Puerto Rican’s favour.

“I’m 2 and 0 against Amanda but it’s obviously a very special rivalry that delivers every time we step in the ring so I think it’s only right that we have the trilogy. The atmosphere for the first fight there was amazing and I’m sure it won’t be any different this time around,” said Taylor.

Serrano responded: “I’m disappointed that Katie Taylor did not keep her word and make the trilogy 12 three-minute rounds, equal to the men. This is a record-setting payday for both of us, and we owed it to the fans to honor the handshake deal we made. She didn’t.

“But make no mistake, every time we share the ring, it is war, and I know Friday, July 11, will be the greatest yet because I will finally get the official W I deserve.”
