THIS summer’s Five vs. Five event involving Matchroom and Queensberry fighters competing against one another could feature middleweight star Hamzah Sheeraz.

Sheeraz, promoted by Queensberry, told Boxing News in Birmingham last night that the card – eyed for June 1 in Riyadh – is his “priority” at the moment.

The 24-year-old is hot property after destroying Liam William in less than one round last month in London. While the Welshman was a shadow of himself Sheeraz, 19-0 (15 KOs), didn’t hang around to find out and is consistently proving himself to be one of the most destructive British fighters around.

Sheeraz was an interested spectator at the Resorts World Arena in Birmingham last night taking in domestic rival Nathan Heaney’s performance in his draw against Brad Pauls. Heaney, the current British middleweight champion, could face Sheeraz this year but the prospect of appearing on the Five vs. Five bill is of great appeal to Sheeraz. And to whet the appetite even more Matchroom’s middleweight rising star Austin “Ammo” Williams, 16-0 (11 KOs), could be in the opposite corner.

“It’s an explosive fight,” Sheeraz said.

“He’s a knockout artist, I’m a knockout artist. Young, hungry, fresh, just both putting it on the line. I think a fight like that is what boxing needs nowadays – young hungry lions going at it. It calls for an explosive fight to say the least.”

Williams already holds two wins over British opposition having defeated Kieron Conway over 10 rounds in September 2022 and then in April 2023 stopping River Wilson-Bent in eight rounds. With the expectation of well-matched fights for Five vs. Five Sheeraz against Williams would be a welcome addition.

Sheeraz is, though, in need of more rounds having fought less than six rounds of competitive action in his last three fights. BN asked the Slough boxer to outline his ideal 2024 and should he come through untested and needing little time then Britain may have it’s next boxing superstar.

“Five versus five and then either a world title or Nathan Heaney in Stoke. I forgot about Chris Eubank Jr as well. Any order. Five versus five would be my priority at the minute,” Sheeraz said.
