FORMER IBF super-lightweight champion Liam Paro got back to winning ways last week. Now, the Australian is fast approaching a chance at becoming a two-time champion, having been ordered for an eliminator against Lindolfo Delgado.
Paro, 26-1 (16 KOs), dethroned Subriel Matias to become the IBF champion at 140lbs last year, but his reign was cut short at the first attempt when outpointed by undefeated American Richardson Hitchins just six months later.
Last Wednesday, the Aussie southpaw returned to action for the first time since losing his world title and bossed proceedings against Jonathan Navarro en route to an impressive fifth-round stoppage victory.
The efforts of the 29-year-old lefty have now been rewarded, inking a new multi-year deal with promotional outfit No Limit Boxing, with CEO George Rose labelling Paro as a future pay-per-view star on Instagram.
“We are really excited to do a multi-year deal with Liam. His fights are action-packed, his style is entertaining, he will be out next pay-per-view star and Australia is going to love him.”
Meanwhile, No Limit Boxing has also confirmed that Paro (IBF #4) has been ordered for an IBF title eliminator against unbeaten Mexican Lindolfo Delgado, 23-0 (16 KOs), who is currently ranked as the #5 super-lightweight contender.
Over the last 18 months, 30-year-old Delgado has risen into title contention, with wins against Bryan Flores and Elvis Rodriguez proving the Linares-born sensation to be among the super-lightweight elite.
Whilst a meeting with Delgado appears the most obvious route towards a world title shot, Paro may opt to instead take on George Kambosos Jr. in an all-Australian domestic dust-up that would boost his star power back home.
It remains to be seen whether Kambosos will continue in the sport or hang up the gloves following his damning defeat to Hitchins last month.
