UNBEATEN super-bantamweight Guillermo Rigondeaux has lost his WBO world title after the governing body voted to declare the belt vacant.

The decision was made at the WBO’s annual convention, with their Championship Committee recommending the title become vacant before the Executive Committee ratified the move.

The gifted Cuban has not made a mandatory defence of the title since winning it against Nonito Donaire in 2013.

A lackluster decision win over Joseph Agbeko followed in 2013, before two more voluntary defences against Sod Kokietgym and Hisashi Amagasa.

The 35-year-old still holds the WBA ‘Super’ bauble and has the right to appeal the WBO’s decision, but is yet to make a statement.
