GERVONTA DAVIS has reportedly returned to civilian life after the alleged victim of his domestic violence case, who also happens to be the mother of his two children, dropped all charges against him.
The 30-year-old was placed behind bars on July 11, shortly after his former partner told Doral Police that she had been hit during a dispute the previous month.
But since then, a Miami-Dade County Court official has told TMZ sports that the case against ‘Tank’ was dismissed just yesterday.
According to the Attorney’s office, the alleged victim, along with her mother, has declined to prosecute Davis, 30-0-1 (28 KOs), meaning that the WBA world lightweight champion could soon return to the ring.
Davis was set to face Lamont Roach Jr in an eagerly-awaited rematch this Saturday, only for the court case against him to scupper any plans for a Premier Boxing Champions card in August.
Along with the main event, it was widely reported that a clash between O’Shaquie Foster, the WBC world super-featherweight champion, and Stephen Fulton, who holds the green and gold strap at 126lbs, would have taken place on the same show.
But of course, it remains to be seen whether Davis will revisit a second encounter with Roach, who was denied victory in their highly controversial showdown last March.
Back then, the pair boxed to a draw after referee Steve Willis ruled that Davis, who took a knee in the ninth round, would ultimately swerve the fate of a knockdown.
As a result, Roach has since represented an obvious dance partner for ‘Tank’, whose future in the sport, even now that any domestic violence charges have been dropped, remains unclear.
