GEORGE Kambosos Jr has revealed that he will take on battle-hardened veteran Daud Yordan when he returns to Sydney, Australia, on March 22.
The former lightweight king has not fought in his home city since 2016, back when he outpointed Brandon Ogilvie in a fiercely contested domestic dustup.
But now, the 31-year-old is gearing up for his first outing at 140lbs, headlining a card stacked top to bottom with some of Australian boxing’s brightest stars.
Since his scintillating victory over Teofimo Lopez in 2021, Kambosos, 21-3 (10 KOs), has claimed just one highly contentious split decision win over Maxi Hughes in four fights.
Before that, ‘Ferocious’ suffered back-to-back defeats to Devin Haney, losing his IBF, WBO and WBA titles in a vastly one-sided encounter the first time round.
His most recent assignment, though, came against boxing legend Vasyl Lomachenko last May, when a stunning 11th-round finish saw Kambosos return to the losing column.
But with the Australian now campaigning super-lightweight, he will undoubtedly be looking to put himself back in the shop window for another shot at world honours.
Standing in his way is Yordan, 43-4 (31 KOs), a seasoned operator who squared off against former world champion Anthony Crolla back in 2018.
On that occasion, the Indonesian produced a strong performance to hear the final bell, only to lose 116-112 on all three judges’ scorecards.
Still, Yordan has proved to be a sturdy contender over the years but, now at the age of 37, just how many problems he can pose for Kambosos remains to be seen.
In any case, Kambosos confirmed when speaking with Nunanboy Promotions that the ‘Boxing Senator’ will be his next dance partner.
