Frazer Clarke eyes Johnny Fisher clash despite Dave Allen rematch

FRAZER Clarke remains eager to face fan-friendly heavyweight Johnny Fisher, despite insisting that he is ‘miles ahead’ of his domestic rival.

The Olympic bronze medallist comes off a ruthless first-round finish over Ebenezer Tetteh, several months after finding himself on the receiving end of an equally emphatic stoppage.

Naturally, the devastating nature of his defeat to Fabio Wardley last October caused many to express their concern, not only for his future in the sport but, more importantly, his overall health.

But if his destructive performance last April is anything to go by, it must be said that Clarke, 9-1-1 (7 KOs) – on the domestic scene, at least – remains a ferocious operator.

A date and opponent for his outing, meanwhile, is seemingly still up in the air, though the 33-year-old will nonetheless be keeping a close eye on the action this Saturday.

After claiming a highly-contentious split decision victory over Dave Allen last December, heavyweight slugger Fisher, 13-0 (11 KOs), now looks to end their rematch in conclusive fashion.

The pair will collide at the Copper Box Arena, London, where ‘The Romford Bull’ hopes to produce a more polished performance, elevated by his lively army of supporters.

That much, of course, was not on display in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, back when Allen, 23-7-2 (18 KOs), scored a fifth-round knockdown before controlling the rest of their enthralling dustup.

If Fisher is to come through his test this weekend, though, then Clarke – the more seasoned campaigner – will undoubtedly be licking his chops ahead of a potential showdown.

“It’s an interesting fight, and depending [on] how Johnny does on Saturday, I think me and him would be a great matchup,” Clarke told Sky Sports.

“I’ve got a lot of respect for Johnny and his family, they’re really nice people, but when it comes to me and him fighting, we’re worlds apart – and I’m miles ahead of him.”

Clarke has also expressed an interest in facing the winner of David Adeleye and Jeamie TKV’s British title rematch, but while a date for that is yet to emerge, it would seem that he is nonetheless keeping his options open.
