FLOYD Schofield produced an electric performance to stop former world champion Tevin Farmer in one round.
The 10-round lightweight matchup kicked off the televised portion of the Jake Paul-Julio Cesar Chavez Jr undercard and Schofield certainly caught the eye.
Schofield put a seven-month absence behind him to demolish Farmer and send a statement to the lightweight division. The 22-year-old came out ready to deliver, throwing fast hands in the opening seconds.
Farmer never got a chance to land anything of note because he was too occupied trying to withstand Schofield’s offence. A straight left hand, then a right hook, delivered the first knockdown in the opening session. The 34-year-old got back to his feet but never recovered. Schofield quickly got back to work and threw everything at Farmer.
It wasn’t long before a huge left hand floored the veteran again. Referee Gerard White gave him another opportunity to continue, but at 1.18 of round one, the fight was finished when a body shot and left hook decked Farmer, forcing White to intervene and wave the fight off.
Farmer had never been stopped since Jose Pedraza got the better of him in 2012. While he may have a number of losses on his record, Farmer had given the highly touted William Zepeda all he could handle in back-to-back fights in November 2024 and March 2025. Zepeda now challenges WBC lightweight champion Shakur Stevenson on July 12 in New York.
Schofield has now put himself into the mix to face the winner. The unbeaten star had been scheduled to face Stevenson in February but pulled out on fight week due to an illness.
Speaking to DAZN’s Ariel Helwani after tonight’s victory, Schofield said: “It feels like a weight has been lifted off my shoulders. I’ve been doubted ever since what happened in February and a lot of people didn’t think I’d win this fight. It’s a lot of emotion.
“After what happened in February, I was depressed and I wanted to quit boxing and not be here. Reading the comments got to me at one point, but my baby boy kept me afloat, kept me pushing.”
Schofield then sent a message to the WBC champion ahead of next month’s title defence.
“Shakur you better focus on what you got coming up in July because Zepeda’s coming.”
Schofield’s unbeaten record moves to 19-0 (13 KOs) while Farmer drops to 33-9-1 (8 KOs).
